Officials Unveiled 5G AIoT Hub Project at Kaohsiung's Asia New Bay Area

President Tsai Ing-wen inspected the "5G AIoT Park in the Asia New Bay Area" in
Kaohsiung on Feb. 28, and listened to the comprehensive project roadmap
presented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Kaohsiung City Government in
Ji Hui Auditorium on 7F of Kaohsiung Main Public Library. The Executive Yuan
announced a budget of NTD 11 billion over five years to combine
interdepartmental capacity across Kaohsiung City Government, Ministry of
Economic Affairs, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, National
Development Council, National Communications Commission, and Ministry of
Culture, and invest in the development of the park, talent incubation center,
startup hub, and 5G AIoT smart facilities, making the park the most
comprehensive domestic 5G AIoT lab with the largest investment. The park is
expected to attract 50 domestic and overseas companies and 120 startups within 5
years and facilitate NTD 30 billions of investment, increasing the output of
related industries in Kaohsiung to NTD 120 billion. After the presentation,
President Tsai went to the New Bay Garden on the roof for an overview of the
Port of Kaohsiung. President Tsai's inspection was also joined by over 100
companies. After the inspection, Minister Wang Mei-hua of Economic Affairs
immediately held a seminar to listen to the opinions of the industry.
Director General Chiou Chyou-Huey of Department of Industrial Technology,
MOEA, reported on the project on behalf of the involving government departments
and agencies, pointing out that there were five major actions: First, expand
Kaohsiung Software Park Phase 2 and enterprise headquarters zone to provide
enterprises quality office spaces; second, establish the startup park in the
Asia New Bay Area to attract international accelerators; third, build incubation
base and cooperate with leading local enterprises to incubate related talents of
content technology; fourth, complete necessary basic infrastructures of smart
city, such as 5G network and smart pole; fifth, utilize venues, including
Kaohsiung Music Center, Exhibition Center, e-Sports Arena, and Port Terminal, in
the Asia New Bay Area, to offer the public smart services, such as 5G VR
concerts, smart interactive exhibitions, and drone AR competitions, building a
sound foundation for the development of many of Taiwan's forward-looking 5G AIoT
technologies in Kaohsiung.
